Maine Audiences Embrace Childish Things: Theatrical Run Extended Following Strong Hometown Turnout
Awarded “Best in Fest” at the Vacationland Film Festival, the Maine-made road-trip dramedy adds screenings to meet demand
South Portland, Maine — August 27th, 2025 — Hundreds of Mainers ventured out to see Childish Things on the big screen this month. They called it “funny, raw, and quietly emotional,” and praised its unwavering honesty. Now, thanks to audience enthusiasm and its recent “Best in Fest” win at the Vacationland Film Festival, more Maine cinemas are coming aboard to share this homegrown hit.
Fueled by the same do-it-yourself spirit as the film’s production, the theatrical screenings of Childish Things feel like a block party. Neighbors and friends rally around the film, spreading the word in true grassroots fashion. Then, after the show, the crowd gathers at the iconic blue bus they just watched traverse the country — the afterparty parks right outside the theater.
"It’s after the screenings, when everyone’s on the bus, many rocking new Childish Things t-shirts, and raving about how the film resonated with them — that’s why we do this. That energy proves there’s a hunger for indie film here, and we’re ready to deliver,” says director Nick Cassidy.
"I feel like we’re on to something big. People really connect with this movie — a few even told me it’s their favorite movie ever. Sharing Childish Things with the community that raised me is a dream, and I hope with their support, the dream continues to grow," says producer Cash Cassidy.
If you missed out the first time around (or need another viewing), fret not! You can still catch Childish Things in Portland at the Nickelodeon Cinemas on September 8th and 29th, in Orono at Black Bear Cinemas on September 17th, and in Brunswick at the EveningStar Cinema on September 19th. Find tickets, watch the trailer, and more on the Childish Things official website.
